Step 1: Choose a Subject

Not sure what kind of art you want? Here are some possibilities based on past client favorites:

Portraits (people and pets)
Individual or groups. These could be memories from a photo or a few different references combined.

Places
These could be landscape scenes from travel or daily life, a house portait (great for gifts!), or a favorite landmark or meaningful location.

Things
This could be anything under the sun! Family recipes, sentimental objects, florals, abstract designs or patterns, etc.

You also don’t need a fully formed idea! I can help you with creative direction and selecting a subject if you have a general sense for what you want.

Step 2: Choose A Medium

Each medium has its own personality and effect. Here’s a quick overview:

Acrylic
Bold and textured. Fast-drying and glossy finish. Flexible medium that works for a variety of subjects from portraits to landscapes.

Watercolor
Soft, delicate, and transparent. Fast-drying and matte finish. Great for layering, results in a gentler more subtle image. Best for florals, and dreamy backgrounds.

Gouache
Opaque, velvety, and vibrant. Fast-drying and matte finish. Think of it as watercolor’s bolder cousin—perfect for stylized illustrations and graphic compositions.
